While paddling the 100 miles of the Dirty Devil River we will to be traveling, exploring and hiking through a very unique H2O saturated environment. We wanted to make sure that the best footwear on the market will be protecting our feet. We looked through all the reviews on the Internet and threw in our personal experiences and the brand we came up with was Teva™. Teva™ is an established icon in the aqua shoe market with an enviable reputation of setting the quality benchmark standards in today’s market. Our team considers Teva™ to be the most technologically advanced shoes on the market, with durability second to none.
The men's P-2 and the men's Philter meet our specific needs and will definitely give us the foot protection we need to negotiate the multitude of changing environmental conditions we'll encounter. The P-2 and Philter’s neoprene inner sock will provide warmth in the shaded portions of the canyons while we paddle through waters chilled by recent snow melt from the Henry Mountains. We should be crossing sand bars, mud flats, slick rock, and gravel while exploring the side canyons of the Dirty Devil River. The shoes will allow us do that with confidence and the assurance of great traction. Since we will be in and out of water, portaging numerous times everyday, it is important to us to ensure the shoe has a way to drain water away from the foot after being totally submerged. Please read below to hear why we have chosen Teva’s P-2 and Philter for your shoes of choice.
Men's P-2 - If you have ever kayaked before, you know that your heels will take a beating. You can rest them up on the footrests, but conditions don't always warrant or allow this. The P-2 features an aggressive High Friction SSR® outer sole that will allow us to grab traction when we need it and provide us with enough cushion to go from one canyon surface to another without missing a beat. The P-2’s split toe design will improve our overall lateral stability through the rocky sections and on slick rocks. The narrow canyon conditions will be well traversed with this split toe design. The 3.2 mm neoprene sock will help keep our feet warm in the snow run- off that makes up the Dirty Devil River during this time of year. The multiple drainage ports will help drain the slurry when we exit the river.
Men's Philter - Since we’ll be hiking and climbing the side canyons and some of the narrowest slot canyons in the country we want to make sure the shoe we use will protect our feet. As we hike through some of the smaller feeder streams we wanted shoes that have optimal water displacement and the ability to dry out as soon as possible, the Philter design embraces this criteria with confidence. Without a doubt, comfort is a huge factor on a trip of this length. We look forward to exploring the areas where Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch once hid out in the comfort that Teva provides. Teva states that this shoe will provide dependable performance for any kind of environment, and from our experience with the label this is probably an understatement!
